Welcome 3rd Cohort
MarDATA Welcomes New Doctoral Researchers!
We are thrilled to welcome six new Doctoral Researchers to the MarDATA community! With four already on board and two more joining soon, these talented scientists will tackle cutting-edge research topics at GEOMAR in Kiel and AWI in Bremerhaven.

Since March 1st, four researchers have already started their contracts – two at GEOMAR and two at AWI. We eagerly await the arrival of two more researchers, scheduled to join us on May 1st and June 1st. We understand that the first weeks in a new environment can be particularly challenging, and we are committed to providing support to help our new colleagues settle in smoothly. Whether it's navigating workplace routines, connecting with working groups and fellow MarDATAS, or adjusting to a new city, we're here to help them every step of the way.
Research Topics of Our New Researchers (3rd Cohort)
Kiel (GEOMAR & Kiel University):
- AqQua - Generating an Aquatic Life Foundation Model
- OceanFuse - Fusion of Physics, Biology, and Computing
- Intelligent Underwater Monitoring Systems - Combining Distributed Underwater Sensor Networks with Cloud-Based Digital Twins
Bremerhaven/Bremen (AWI & University of Bremen/Constructor University Bremen):
- Quantitative Risk Assessment of Climate Extremes
- DECODE-ICE - Drivers and Predictability of Antarctic Sea Ice Extremes - A Machine Learning Approach
- SPECBIC - Employing Spectral Radiation for Enhanced Modeling of Biogeochemistry and Carbon Cycling
We are confident that these innovative projects will contribute valuable insights to marine data science. MarDATA is committed to supporting our new researchers as they embark on this exciting journey, and we encourage everyone to extend a warm welcome as they become part of our community.
